During a break from working at the Elephant Valley Project, Cambodia in June, I headed to the Kep coast. Along the edges of the beach were trees, overhanging the sand. Suddenly, out of nearby bushes exploded a family of macaques. As they leapt into the nearby trees they came right above us. I photographed this juvenile looking down upon us from the heavens! 1 Perfect camouflage

It was my first visit to Agumbe, India. Walking at night, this lichen huntsman spider would have definitely gone unnoticed. Luckily, I was able to see its outline with my flashlight. Saketh Upadhya, Bengaluru, India

2 Going for a dip

A friend spotted this grass snake in a local fishing pond on a hot day in June. I was over the moon to see one swimming, let alone to get some pictures of it. Mark Clayton, Nottinghamshire

3 Hunting tactics

My wife and I were in Yellowstone National Park in February 2019. We wanted to see foxes hunt for prey beneath the snow. We watched as this one moved its head from side to side, listening for movement, then leapt headfirst into the snow. Paul Nicholson, East Sussex

4 Parental pride

I set out for my final game drive in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, to a spot where we had seen lions and cubs before. The male was very tolerant – indulging in play. When this cub animatedly called for a catch-me-if-you-can game, dad obliged. Magal Sanjeev, Bangalore, India

5 Win-win situation

At a lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, I walked around the quieter parts of the grounds, as I was told eastern double-collared sunbirds could be found here. This picture shows nature in harmony – the sunbird gets nectar and the lion’s tail is pollinated. Alan Grant, Somerset
