Kori bustard

SOUTHERN AND EASTERN AFRICA

-

Despite laying claim to the title of the world’s heaviest flying bird (up to 19kg), the Kori bustard is surprisingly elegant, with a long grey neck, long legs, a slim, muscular body and a rather dapper crest at the back of its head. Feeding on small mammals, reptiles, seeds and berries, it walks with a cool and deceptively quick stride. The Kori bustard is found over much of southern and eastern Africa, with Kruger National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, both in South Africa, good bets for a sighting.

?? ?? The hulking Kori bustard can weigh as much as a sixyear-old child.
