SUPER SOARERS

Europe’s largest raptor (and a contender for its largest flying bird) is the black vulture, with a wingspan of up to 2.5m. Try the Escorca area of the Tramuntana mountains, the northern backbone of the island of Mallorca. Black vultures nearly went extinct on the island in the 1980s, but conservation efforts have now brought numbers up to some 35 pairs.
