NINE STEPS TO CARVING AND SCULPTING

1 Draw a design of the bird you wish to create. 2 Cut out your template and trace it on to a wood block. 3 Cut out the block shape with a band saw. 4 Chisel and rasp to create a three-dimensional bird shape. 5 Drill a hole for the beak and fix the beak in with glue. 6 Sand and rasp the wood to smooth the bird. 7 Flame the surface to seal the wood. 8 Paint your bird (you could add silver and gold leaf). 9 Wax the bird and affix it on metal legs to driftwood base.
