The Isle of Man has its own government but maintains close links with the UK and Ireland. It is 33 miles long and 13 miles wide, with a population of 85,000. There is plenty of open space away from its towns, 40% of the Isle of Man remains uninhabite­d, including rugged hills, beautiful glens and amazing coastal scenery.

The hilly countrysid­e makes the island a haven for cyclists – producing a number of home-grown, world class cyclists, including Tour de France legend Mark Cavendish. There are more than 70 off-road mountain bike tracks too.

At a slower pace, there are countless walking opportunit­ies, including the 100-mile Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath – don’t worry, it can be broken down into sections!

Or residents can enjoy the chance for some kayaking, diving or sailing – or watching birds, whales or dolphins.

The entire Isle of Man has been awarded UNESCO Biosphere status –recognitio­n for the way it encourages sustainabl­e developmen­t and brings people and nature closer together. It is the first entire country to have been granted such status.

An added benefit of the widespread countrysid­e is there are 26 Dark Skies Discovery Sites for those who want to enjoy some stargazing.

REMAIN CONNECTED

Connectivi­ty to and from the Isle of Man is first rate. The island expects to return to pre-pandemic services with daily flights which including Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin and London less than one hour away with all parts of the British Isles connected. On top of that there is a daily ferry connection to Liverpool and Heysham.

The Island also has excellent digital infrastruc­ture and a fibre broadband plan rolling out across the Isle of Man in 2021.

PURSUING YOUR CAREER

Many new residents remark upon how much easier the daily commute is. You can finish work, be back home and then out to the beach, all within minutes.

A warm Manx welcome means friendship networks grow fast once you get to know people and also helps in developing business contacts.

There are job opportunit­ies across a range of sectors, including accountanc­y, finance, ICT, aerospace, aviation, shipping, banking and tourism.

An excellent education system offers opportunit­ies for teachers. The Isle of Man’s health service offers an NHS style service with close links to the UK and provides plenty of career options.
