Create a garden oasis

For the benefit of wildlife and the planet

-

Our world is changing. By expanding your knowledge and taking action, you can make a change for the better.

Gardens help wildlife in two key ways. By creating habitats, and by providing food sources such as berries, leaves and flower pollen. Pollinators need our help as loss of habitat is one of the main reasons why fewer of them are visiting our gardens. Planting a mixture of native, near-native and exotic plants helps slow and reverse the declines in bees, butterflies, moths, hoverflies and other insects.

From climate change to disappearing wildlife there are many reasons why you might want to create an oasis in your garden. The impact of extreme weather conditions, such as flash flooding and periods of drought mean that gardens will become more critical in providing flood alleviation, carbon sequestration and the provision of habitats for wildlife.

How then to create the garden of your dreams? By understanding your soil type, sun direction, and topographical elements in your garden, you can create a design that is compatible with your garden features and the style you wish to achieve, whether that is contemporary, cottage or wild. A core knowledge of plants, their structure, growth, and health, ensures that you choose plants that will not only enhance your garden, but will thrive and bring in an abundance of wildlife too.

An RHS Qualification can guide you through the skills and knowledge you need to plan and manage your preferred garden style. You can grow your knowledge and skills to design and plant with confidence.

RHS Level 2 qualifications combine handson practical experience alongside theory concepts. They are also offered part-time, so ideal to fit around other commitments. You can learn alongside others who share your passion for gardening, or study theory from the comfort of home.
