Belfast group wins UK so­cial en­ter­prise award

BELFAST so­cial en­ter­prise Now Group has won a Uk-wide award for its learn­ing dif­fi­culty ini­tia­tive, now used by more than 13,00 peo­ple.

The JAM (just a minute) Card ini­tia­tive won the Tech for Good Award at the UK So­cial En­ter­prise Awards in Lon­don last week. Cre­ated by NOW Group par­tic­i­pants with learn­ing dif­fi­cul­ties and autism who wanted a dis­creet way of ask­ing for Just A Minute of pa­tience in a cus­tomer ser­vice sit­u­a­tion, the card has also been de­vel­oped into an app for smart­phones.

Maeve Mon­aghan, chief ex­ec­u­tive of Now Group, said: “We are thrilled that the JAM Card has been recog­nised with a na­tional award. It was our par­tic­i­pants who came up with the idea and it is hav­ing a sig­nif­i­cant im­pact on the lives of many.”
