Over the course of four decades, brothers Jim and Jack Dob­son grew their small Dun­gan­non butcher shop into meat gi­ant Dun­bia, with sites through­out the UK and Ire­land, turn­ing over al­most £800m each year. Set up in 1976 af­ter the brothers bought over a small frozen meat shop in Dun­gan­non, Dun­bia has grown to employ over 4,000 staff — 1,200 work­ing in North­ern Ire­land — across a dozen sites, sell­ing and ex­port­ing beef, lamb and pork across the globe. In De­cem­ber 2015, it emerged that the brothers were con­sid­er­ing a sale of both the red meat and pork busi­nesses. In 2016, the pork busi­ness in Bal­ly­mena was sold to Cran­swick plc while a joint ven­ture in its red meat was formed with Ir­ish pro­ces­sor Dawn Meats.
