Follow the rainbow to keep ahead of the celebrity trend

Belfast is buzzing with music festivals and at the minute Belsonic is on a roll with so many top artists in the city. For music lovers, summer festival time is usually a great excuse to be more adventurous with their hair and this year it is all about bold and beautiful colours.

I call it fruit juice hair as every colour under the rainbow goes.

Directional colours on blonde and brunette hair are really trending at the moment.

Pinks, reds, blues, lilacs and greens — all sorts of crazy colours — are popular. The beauty of these new colours is that they wash out after 12 weeks.

It is not just young people going to music festivals but people of all ages are giving it a go. It is like the return of the purple rinse brigade but, instead of purple, people are going for pinks, blues and even green.

And if you can’t make up your mind which of the many beautiful shades to choose from, there is also a popular multi colour blend which gives you an array of colours in one go.

Rose gold, which has been very popular, is being replaced by rose brown and it is a huge trend with brunettes at the moment.

This is a mixture of pink and rose gold which, when put on top of brown hair, gives a lovely warm iridescent rose gold look.

It is fun for hairdressers and lovely to see the end results. I had one customer this week with grey hair who left the salon rose pink and another who went from pink to purple. We find people tend to be a bit more adventurous in the summer months and usually feel a bit freer to experiment. Also popular with festival-goers are glitter extensions and feather extensions. We’ve had a lot of people getting single strand glitter extensions which are tied into the root of the hair. It is a very quick and easy way to update your look. Bright colours aside, this season is all about going with the flow and allowing hair to look free and natural. All you need when you decide on your style is a spritz of sea salt spray to protect it and you are ready to rock and roll.
