We Are Most Amused and Amazed

Belfast Telegraph - Weekend - - WEEKEND TV -

Tuesday, ITV, 8pm

Prince Charles turns 70 on November 14, and the BBC is choosing to celebrate his milestone birthday with this week’s documentary Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, which followed him over the course of a year and spoke to some of those closest to him.

However, ITV is taking a different approach by treating the future king to a night of comedy and magic.

The hosts should certainly have the amused bit covered, as the job has fallen to reunited double-act Armstrong and Miller (above).

Armstrong says: “This is going to be a night from the very toppermost drawer. What a colossal honour it is to be hosting such a dazzling line-up for HRH.”

Miller adds: “Alexander Armstrong and I are delighted to be hosting Prince Charles’ favourite comedians and magicians at the Palladium, and all in a very good cause: relaunching our comedy careers. And raising a few quid for the Prince’s Trust, of course.”

They won’t be carrying the show alone though, as they’ll be joined by an impressive line-up. The comedy comes from Miller’s Johnny English co-star Rowan Atkinson, Bill Bailey, Sandi Toksvig, Omid Djalili and Alistair McGowan.

Meanwhile, the magic comes from another veteran double act, Penn & Teller, along with Dynamo and the German Ehrlich Brothers.

But it won’t just be comedians and magicians taking to the stage. We should also watch out for special appearances from Downton Abbey actor Jim Carter, singer and former X Factor judge Cheryl and honorary national treasure Kylie Minogue.
