Londonderry actually endured three sieges

-

I NOTE that in your Weekend magazine (May 5) a feature on Londonderry suggests that the city suffered two sieges in the 17th century, including a 105-day siege in 1688.

Thetruthisthatthecity endured three sieges in the 17th century, none of which occurred in 1688. The 105-day siege began in April 1689.

Incidentally, the caption to the article refers to the “province’s second city”. Whereas Londonderry was created as a city by Royal Charter in 1613, Belfast did not become a city until the 19th century.
