Ex-drugs mule McCollum gives birth to twins

- BY STAFF REPORTER

FORMER drugs smuggler Michaella McCollum has given birth to twins.

The Dungannon woman announced her pregnancy via Instagram in January.

In a new video shot from her hospital bed, she confirms the births but not the sex of the newborns.

The short clip, captioned “my little darlings, one week today”, shows the babies resting on the new mum’s chest.

McCollum has not revealed the identity of father.

When she announced the news of her pregnancy, McCollum wrote online: “Wow had some crazy dreams...guess that’s what happens when you’re dreaming for more than one.”

She and Scottish woman Melissa Reid were dubbed the ‘Peru Two’ in August 2013 after they were caught trying to smuggle 11kg of cocaine worth £1.5m out of the South American country.

They were arrested as they attempted to smuggle the transport in their suitcases.

The pair initially denied knowing the luggage contained drugs and claimed that they had been kidnapped and forced to become drug runners.

They later came clean and were jailed for six years and eight months, but were freed in 2016 after striking a deal with Peruvian authorities.

Since her release last year, images have emerged of McCollum on European beaches, including in Marbella and Ibiza, paid for by showbiz agencies.

She has also signed up to a Dubai-based management company that has celebrities on its books.

While McCollum has embraced the limelight since her release, her former partner in crime, Reid, has kept a much lower profile and now works in a Citizen’s Advice Bureau in Glasgow.
