We must always remember heroes of Dambusters raid
Thanks to the revolutionary bouncing bomb, the Dambusters squadron of the RAF achieved immortality for their daring raids on dams in Germany’s industrial heartland during the Second World War. What is less well known is that one of those heroes was from Londonderry. Now, 75 years after the raids, his portrait, along with his fellow fliers, has been unveiled.
It is fitting that Sgt Richard Bolitho should be remembered for his part in such an important mission. He was one of 53 members of the squadron to die on the bombing run but it was a success. He died so that we all could live free of fascism and we should remember him with pride.
