Six crews battle tyre blaze at Co Down farm
HUGE plumes of acrid smoke drifted across parts of Co Down because of a tyre fire at a farm near Dromore yesterday.
Six fire crews were in attendance at the scene of the blaze at Greenogue Road, according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
Group Commander Philip Martin of Fire Service HQ in Lisburn said they had received the call to the remote rural farm just after midday yesterday.
“We sent six appliances to deal with the accidental ignition of tyres at the farm yard.
“Six appliances were needed to ensure a continuous supply of water to put out the blaze.
“There’s nothing worse than attacking a fire — and then running out of water,“he said.
No people or animals were injured by the blaze, and the fire service had left the scene just after 6pm last night.
