Keira likes ‘boss’ roles even if it means less cash

Belfast Telegraph - - NEWS - BY LAURA HARDING

Comments: Keira Knightley KEIRA Knightley has said she turned down well-paid roles because she was not interested in playing “the wife and girlfriend”.

The actress, known for leading roles in films including Pirates Of The Caribbean, Atonement and Pride And Prejudice, said she wants to be the “boss” when portraying a character, even if it means a smaller salary.

Speaking at a screen talk at the BFI London Film Festival, Knightley said: “We really have to... explore women (and) all of their complicated whole, not just in a part. When I’m looking for roles that is what I want to see... I don’t identify with just the supportive wife or just the supportive mother, I want to see the whole picture.”
