Belfast Telegraph - - NEWS - BY DAVID YOUNG

A SINN Fein politician has said a death threat has been made against him.

Pat Sheehan, an MLA for West Belfast, vowed he would not be deterred from carrying out his work as a public representative.

Mr Sheehan (below ) — a former IRA hunger striker — said he was advised of the threat by police.

The 60-year-old said: “The PSNI called to my home tonight to tell me they had information that there is a threat against me.

“They said it emanated from criminal elements who may be planning to take some kind of action against me.

“Whoever this threat stems from, it will not deter me or my party from representing the people of West Belfast.

“The people behind these kind of faceless threats have nothing to offer this community.

“They will certainly not prevent me from continuing to stand up for the rights and entitlements of all the people of West Belfast as I have been l elected to do.”

The threat to Mr Sheehan comes a month after a shot was fired at his constituency office.

Mr Sheehan has been an MLA for West Belfast since 2010.

He took the West Belfast Stormont seat vacated by Gerry Adams after he stepped down as an MP and MLA to stand for election to the Dail.
