Fu­neral for dad found mur­dered in al­ley­way

Found dead: Ed­die Meenan THE fu­neral of Ed­die Meenan, who died af­ter an as­sault in Lon­don­derry, will take place to­day.

The fa­ther-of-nine will be laid to rest in the City Ceme­tery fol­low­ing Re­quiem Mass at St Eu­gene’s Cathe­dral at 12.30pm.

His mother and his chil­dren are ex­pected to lead the mourn­ers.

Mr Meenan’s body was dis­cov­ered in the early hours of Sun­day, Novem­ber 25 in an al­ley­way off Creg­gan Street in the city.

Three men — Sean Ciaran Joseph Rodger (31), from Lit­tle Di­a­mond in the Bog­side area of the city, Derek Cress­well (26), of no fixed abode, and Ryan Wal­ters (19), of Craw­ford Square in the city — have been charged with his mur­der.

They are cur­rently on re­mand pend­ing an­other court ap­pear­ance later this month.

A po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion into Mr Meenan’s death is on­go­ing and de­tec­tives is­sued an ap­peal for any­one who was in the area on Sun­day, Novem­ber 25 to con­tact them.

De­tec­tive Chief In­spec­tor John Cald­well said: “I would like to speak to three peo­ple — two men and one woman — who I know were stand­ing on the steps of a shop on Creg­gan Street at around 2.20am that Sun­day.

“They were then given a lift from some­one driv­ing a dark coloured, medium sized car at around 2.30am.

“I would ap­peal to them to make con­tact with me as they may be able to pro­vide some vi­tal in­for­ma­tion.”
