Council gives green light to coastal path repair works
PLANNING permission has been given for work to restore and protect Blackhead Path near Whitehead.
The multimillion-pound project will see repairs along the coastalpathsfromtheOldCastle Road to the lighthouse and the fitting of new steps and handrails.
Work to restore the Golden Steps is already under way and is due to be finished by the end of the month.
Recent bad weather saw increased rock fall along the path and the collapse of the bridge along the upper path.
Mid and East Antrim Mayor Cllr Lindsay Millar said: “Blackhead Path is a real asset to our tourism offering and hugely popular with the local community, but the safety of users of the path is our priority.
“We would ask any users to respect the signs and gates in place.”
