Major to honour Reynolds 25 years after peace pact
Leaders: Major and Reynolds FORMER Prime Minister John Major is set to pay tribute to the late Taoiseach Albert Reynolds’ contribution to the peace process here.
Mr Major’s visit to Mr Reynolds’ native Longford comes in the same week that, 25 years ago, he together with his former Irish counterpart signed the Downing Street Declaration.
It is seen by many today as a milestone on the road to the Good Friday Agreement.
Former Conservative leader Major, who enjoyed a close relationship with the late Mr Reynolds, will take centre stage at what has been dubbed the Inaugural Albert Reynolds Memorial Lecture at Longford’s Backstage Theatre tomorrow.
