Bellaghy send out a warning to other sides in St Paul’s tourney

- BY DECLAN BOGUE

THE 2018 St Paul’s Ulster minor tournament on Sunday had Bellaghy of Derry sending a warning to the other teams, beating Antrim champions Dunloy on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-4.

Nine points from Lorcan Spier proved the difference, but poor shooting from the Bellaghy blues in the first half left manager Damian Cassidy seething.

A much improved second period yielded 1-11 and they now go through to the semi-finals.

Ballyholland Harps of Down got off to an excellent start in their win over Cavan side Oliver Plunketts, with a goal from Ethan Doyle after just two minutes.

Ryan Connolly added another seven minutes later and John McGovern netted on the stroke of half-time to leave the score 3-6 to 2-5 to the Mourne lads at the break.

There were no further goals in the second half, but Ballyholland survived on a 3-8 to 2-7 scoreline.

Donegal’s Red Hugh’s of Killygordon are through to the All-Ireland Junior club semi-final after it took all of their might to see off Dunedin Connollys of Edinburgh in Letterkenny.

Despite breaking a jaw in the Ulster final win over Limavady, Shane Gallagher came off the bench to net a goal with just two minutes of extra-time remaining, the final score 3-11 to 1-15.

Emmet Ógs of Monaghan suffered a heavy defeat in the All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies’ final, 2-5 to 8-14, but the result of the day undoubtedly belonged to Mullinalaghta, who became the first club from Longford to win the Leinster senior club Championship, beating heavy favourites Kilmacud Crokes.
