NI on alert for rain and wind

THE Met Office has warned that flooding of some homes and businesses is possible with wind and rain set to hammer Northern Ireland this weekend.

A yellow warning for the province comes into effect at 6am this morning and will last until 6pm this evening, with fears it could cause disruption during the busy Christmas shopping season.

Between 30mm and 50mm of rain is expected to fall over a period of between six and 12 hours.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of 50 to 60mph.

Parts affected by the warning stretch across the south and east of the province.

Spray and flooding is expected and journey times could potentiall­y be impacted, with high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges also told to expect delays.
