Woman and man are held over violent flat burglary

TWO people have been arrested by police investigat­ing an aggravated burglary in Co Antrim.

A 25-year-old man suffered cuts to his head and a suspected fractured wrist when he was assaulted by two males and a female who forced their way into his flat in Burneys Mews, Newtownabb­ey, around 7.30pm on Friday.

Police said a 21-year-old woman and 33-year-old man were arrested in the Newtownabb­ey area on Saturday night on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

SDLP councillor Noreen McClelland said the burglary was “appalling”, adding: “Everyone should have the right to feel safe in their own home. Those who carried out this attack have no place in this society.”
