POLICE in Craigavon have said that a driver is lucky to be alive after a group of young people dropped an object from a footbridge onto a car windscreen.

The incident happened near Rushmere Shopping Centre.

A woman motorist was driving at Lake Road when her windscreen was shattered by the object thrown from the bridge.

Police believe a crowd of young people in their early teens and “possibly younger” were in the area at the time.

“By sheer chance it didn’t go completely through and cause injury or worse. By good driving, she didn’t swerve and hit someone,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

“This could have been death. Let the fact that it isn’t be a chance for education. Talk to your kids. Now.”
