The pair face shock exit from This Morning

After hosting This Morning together for the past 15 years, rumours suggest that Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes’ run on the show could soon be coming to an end. The 60-year-old husband and wife, who have presented the programme on Fridays and during the school holidays since 2006, fear they could be axed amid ITV’s diversity drive, according to one newspaper source. Possible replacements include Rochelle Humes and Ore Oduba, who have both presented the show before.

“Eamonn and Ruth are incredibly popular with viewers and loved across the board. No one wants to see them go,” an insider allegedly told the press. “The show’s execs have some very tricky decisions. Eamonn fears he is basically too ‘pale, stale and male’, and at 60, perhaps not in line with the youth drive broadcasters are after.” They added, “One possibility is to keep them on as regular holiday cover, but lose their Friday slot. Nothing has been decided yet.” Fans came to their defence, and Eamonn responded to their supportive comments online by posting a hands praying emoji.

The show’s latest reshuffle comes after ITV chief Carolyn McCall emailed employees with her diversity and inclusion plan in July, wanting to create “more opportunities for those from Black, Asian, minority ethnic and other underrepresented groups”. While it would be the latest setback for Eamonn in recent months, as he left his Drivetime slot for TalkRadio in February, Ruth continues to present Loose Women and has her fashion range with QVC.

Meanwhile, the BBC are reportedly planning a rival to This Morning, with Strictly star Alex Scott and Ore up for the job. Looks like he’s a popular man at the moment!
