Peter Crouch is heading up the Euros chat with Maya Jama and Alex Horne

-

Former England striker Peter Crouch is back doing what he loves best – talking about football – alongside Maya Jama and Alex Horne for Crouchy’s Year Late Euros. Each episode will be broadcast live just a stone’s throw from Wembley stadium, where the new champions of Europe will be crowned this summer.

The series, originally announced in 2019, follows the biggest matches in the postponed Euro 2020 tournament, rescheduled to kick off on 11 June. Peter, Maya and Alex will present their unique take on all the action and welcome some famous faces to share the fun with them. We caught up with Peter, 40, and Maya, 26, to find out more…

What element of the show are you particularly excited about?

Peter: I’m a football fan, so I’m excited about watching the games and reacting off the back of them.

The football guests will be great, and I’m a big music fan and I know we have some incredible people coming on. The fact that it’s live and we have a bar and can socialise safely again will be amazing. I’m hoping to incorporate everything we’ve missed – football, socialising and being in one place together, at Wembley. It’s going to be big!

Maya: I think the adrenaline of getting an instant reaction straight after the games is what I am most excited about. It’s not repetitive, it’s going to be a lot of fun with a lot of adrenaline and it will be a bit of a party all at the same time.

It’s been described as the ultimate after-party. What is the best afterparty you’ve been to?

Maya: I’ve been to many! All the BRITS ones are insane. I usually flit across London trying to get to all of them. I DJ’D at one with Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw and that was great. Peter: We had some good do’s with the England football team. David Beckham had a 2006 pre-world Cup party at his house, which was one of the best footballing parties I’ve been to! But I go to the Isle of Wight Festival every year and always enjoy the afterparty there, so I’d probably say that.

Who would be your dream guest?

Peter: I had Prince William on the podcast, so I wonder if he’d come on the show, because he was amazing! I’m a big fan of Oasis and we had Liam on Save Our Summer, so it would be nice to have Noel on.

Maya: We’re supporting all the home nations, so a hero from each of those would be awesome. Tom Jones for Wales, the Gallagher brothers from England, and Gordon Ramsay representing Scotland would be an absolute dream.

Who are you predicting will win the Euros?

Maya: I really do hope England win.

It is an incredible atmosphere here when we do well. Summer 2018, when England got to the World Cup semifinals, was very special. I just feel there is a chirp in everyone’s step when England are doing well, so I hope that happens. Also, Wales had such great form last time in getting to the semis, so I hope they can repeat that. My grandad is from Dollar in Scotland and they have a special place in my heart, so I’d really like Scotland to do well, too. Peter: I want to say that England won’t win it, and then us win it, but I feel like we’ve got a real chance. We’ve got some great young players that show no fear, they are a different breed and there’s a real team ethic. If not, I’ll say Portugal!
