Michelle’s vodka, wine and cocaine binges
Following a stint in rehab, Michelle Heaton has revealed how she was “days from death” in a battle with alcohol and cocaine. The 41-year-old former Liberty X singer admitted she had been drinking two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka a day from 2018, until an intervention from her friend Katie Price eventually pushed her to go to famous rehabilitation facility The Priory. She said, “What I was doing was a suicide mission. I was crying out for help when I couldn’t actually ask for help. When you’re an addict, it feels like there’s no way out.” Alongside the booze, she was also consuming a gram of cocaine a night.
Her addiction eventually led to her husband of 11 years, Hugh, looking after their two children, Faith, nine, and AJ, seven. “I felt like a bad mother – the worst,” she said, adding, “I never put them at risk in a physical way, but they saw me being sick and were worried about Mummy and wondering why she shouted. And my husband wondered if I’d be alive when he woke up.”
While her cocaine use lessened during the pandemic as she was at home, she would often compensate for it with booze. She told The Sun, “The amount of alcohol was ludicrous. I would be sick, then I’d drink more. The days I didn’t drink were very few and far between. I would buy it daily and have copious amounts hidden. Vodka was my go-to as it doesn’t smell as much, it’s cleaner and has fewer calories. If you looked for cheap deals, it could cost no more than a couple of coffees a day.” Now feeling much more positive as she continues her treatment from home, Michelle said she will “never touch drugs or alcohol again”.
