ON THE MOVE

-

In the words of The Importance of Being Earnest’s Lady Bracknell: “To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.” But I wonder what her ladyship would have thought about two of this magazine’s regular contributors deciding to retire at the same time.

I am sorry to report that Dave Eyles who has written the Out of the Box model page for the last nine years, and Ian Mccann who has kept you amused with his columns at the foot of this page, have both decided to call it a day.

I will certainly miss Dave’s contributions; as someone whose attempts at kit building have largely resulted in glueing my fingers together, I am envious of how Dave is not only able to build the damn things but by using a variety of tricks developed over his long career as a professional modelmaker, makes them look like the real thing.

It’s no reflection on Dave but I’m going to miss working with Ian the most. We first met just over 12 years ago when this magazine transferred from Market Deeping to North Acton. Ian was the editor of this publication’s then sister title Record Collector and turned out to be something of a kindred spirit.

A man who has seen it all and done a large amount of it too, he worked in publishing from the days of hot metal through to computer aided design, embracing the ability to change his copy without causing an industrial dispute. Always a sympathetic sounding board, he helped immensely in my early days as editor, and I credit him with a lot.

And like Ian, who has relocated from Essex to the south-west, BOB has just moved house, becoming part of Mortons Media Group. Founded when Victoria was on the throne, the Horncastle-based company has a rich history and is dedicated to print magazines, meaning BOB, a magazine that looks back, can now look ahead to a great future.
