Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoo­n and Shailene Woodley star in this darkly comic drama about three California­n mums all harbouring dark secrets. In the posh seaside town of Monterey, a primary school becomes the unlikely scene of a shocking murder. Over seven episodes, the drama flashes back to the lead-up to the killing – revealing a web of tangled relationsh­ips, jealousy and spite. With a great cast, including Laura Dern and easy-on-the-eye Alexander Skarsgård (as Nicole Kidman’s husband), it’s a fantastic adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s best-selling novel. With a plot that keeps you guessing, this glossy but gripping series is worth staying in for.

Clare Balding presents four days of coverage of the annual carnival of all things canine, broadcast from Birmingham’s NEC. From the stiff competitio­n of pampered pooches vying for Best in Show to cute mongrels in the more relaxed ‘Scrufts’ section, there’s plenty to get tails wagging.
