TV PRESENTER ANGELA SCANLON ON...
…why people love Robot Wars so much
There’s so much passion. The love people pour into these inanimate objects always blows me away. The whole community is so close – they’re part of each other’s weddings, they’re best friends, married, and we even have Robot babies!
…the atmosphere on set
It’s crazy – so much fun. Lots of kids are wildly wielding foam fingers and teams are hungry for the win – they throw everything at it. Since the show is shot in Glasgow, Dara [Ó Briain, Angela’s co-host] and I tend to shovel teacakes in at an alarming rate. I haven’t looked at a Tunnock’s teacake since.
…her favourite food
My death row meal is salt-and-chilli squid. There’s a Vietnamese restaurant near my house which does the best squid you’re ever going to taste in your life – rolled in flour and deep-fried, with lightly-fried spring onions and chilli. It’s the dream.
…how she stays in shape
I absolutely love boxing, I do classes in the dark... it’s nice to know that other people can’t see you, because I really go for it. It feels quite trance-like – it’s amazing! Robot Wars is on Sunday, BBC Two, 8pm
