Fears for East-Enders’ Jessie Wallace

The star may be back in Albert Square, but she’s also back in the headlines – for all the wrong reasons…

All eyes were on the first ladies of soap at the recent British Soap Awards, strutting their stuff in glamorous gowns at the first-ever live broadcast of the annual ceremony.

But conspicuous by her absence was Jessie Wallace, who returned to EastEnders as Kat Slater earlier this year. Sources at the black-tie event claim that Jessie was, in fact, at the awards, but was ordered home after organisers declared her ‘too drunk’.

Jessie, 46, had travelled to the event with a male pal. He posted a picture of the two en route, in which the actress appeared relaxed. The source claimed she arrived already much the worse for wear, and that her refusal to stop drinking led to her being ‘sent home’ at 7pm, before she could hit the red carpet.

The incident is the latest in a string of such events, raising fears that the mumof-one could be back to her hard-partying ways.

In March, Jessie was caught on camera by a passer-by on a night out in London’s party district, Soho. The footage showed her staggering about, falling over and having to be helped into a cab by her male companion. An onlooker said, ‘She was off her face.’

The previous September, Jessie was recorded launching an angry tirade after getting caught up in an altercation at a north London pub. Jessie was, reportedly, asked to leave by the manager, which led to a loud and sweary row on the pavement outside.

But, since she burst on to our screens as fiery Kat Slater in 2000, the Essex-born actress has always created a bit of a stir.

Jessie has never married, but her love life has been colourful and she has had three broken engagements.

In a drama to rival the most lurid EastEnders storyline, her 2011 wedding to catering boss Vince Morse was actually called off on the day of the ceremony, after Vince had sent a compromising picture of Jessie to one of his ex-partners.

The TV star had previously fallen for Dave Morgan, the policeman assigned to escort her during her trial for drinkdriving. He is the father of her daughter, Tallulah, now 13. They broke up in 2005.

Now, with Jessie a little older and wiser, fans may have hoped that the actress’s more raucous antics were a thing of the past…
