PARK GÜELL

Best - - BEST FOR ESCAPES -

Antoni Gaudí is by far Barcelona’s most famous citizen. A deeply religious man, he lived in Park Güell for more than 20 years with his father, niece and several Carmelite nuns. Many believe the word ‘gaudy’ comes from his style of art, but it’s not true. The word was in use long before Gaudí began to build his opulent structures. His most ambitious work was, of course, the still unfinished basilica. It’s not due to be completed until 2026 – the centenary of his death.
