Trending: our favourite festive ads
If you haven’t had time to keep up with Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, we’ve done it for you…
Well, apparently yes. You won’t be seeing Iceland’s offering on your TV screen this year, due to concerns over its potentially political content. The ad – originally created for Greenpeace – shows ‘Rang-tan’ wreaking havoc on a little girl’s bedroom, then sadly explaining that he’s only there because his home – the rainforest – is being destroyed by humans harvesting palm oil.
Rang-tan says, ‘There’s a human in my forest and I don’t know what to do. He took away my mother and I’m scared he’ll take me too.’
Despite the ban, the controversial commercial has been viewed nearly 15 million times on Facebook, and a petition for it to be aired has attracted nearly one million signatures.
What do you think? Too hard-hitting, or an important message for Christmas consumers?
