Linda’s ‘meltdown’: what brought her to brink

What exactly drove Loose Woman Linda Robson to the brink?

- WORDS: JULIE ANN TRAINOR

With police called to Linda Robson’s house twice in two weeks over her ‘erratic behaviour’, fans have been left wondering what’s going on with the Loose Women panellist?

It was reported the 60-yearold’s family dialled 999 after reaching ‘ breaking point’ amid fears she might ‘ harm herself’.

One suggestion is that the grandmother and mum-ofthree – who lost 2 ½ st last year – wasn’t sleeping properly over Christmas, and the stress had become too much.

Usually outspoken and strong, Linda, who has been married to Mark Dunford for 28 years, has talked before about the pressures the festive season brings.

‘The grandkids come and open Santa’s presents at mine, then I do a big fry-up for everyone. Then, I get cooking the next meal. After all that work, it gets gobbled up in seconds. Even my French bulldog, Ernie, gets presents,’ she said.

The actress ditched booze last year. She said at the time, ‘My drink was Pinot Grigio with soda. I used to have a bottle a night. But in January 2018, I stopped. It was hard. I’m worried if I had a glass, I’d be back on a bottle a night.

‘I have a very addictive personality. I’ve been addicted to a nicotine replacement for five years.’

Psychotherapist Luke Reynolds (wrenpsycotherapy. com) told best, ‘It’s common for someone to replace one addiction with another. I could see Linda becoming addicted to the idea of what Christmas should be, then struggling with perceived shortcomings.’

Linda has always been candid about life’s ups and downs, from her marriage – of which she once said, ‘ We’ve had a few tough years when we could have easily called it a day’ – to her teenage son’s best friend being stabbed to death.

Linda’s been open about anxiety over her health, too, admitting that she does daily dementia tests, as her mum, Rita, succumbed to the disease in 2012. ‘I test myself all the time…’ she said. ‘It was awful seeing the woman I worshipped deteriorate.’

According to Linda, even her weight-loss has had mixed reviews. ‘My husband keeps saying, “You’re too thin.”’

This searing honesty is probably why Linda’s so popular. So, whatever pushed her to brink, we wish her a speedy recovery.
