IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET RID OF BAGGY EYES? MINE MAKE ME FEEL SO OLD. I’VE TRIED EYE CREAMS, BUT THEY HAVEN’T HELPED.

- Gill, Crewe

DR AAMER SAYS:

Depending how baggy the skin of the eyes is, it might be possible to have a one-off laser treatment to tighten it, or a radio frequency treatment called Pellevé. A small device is lightly massaged around the eyes, and one 30-minute session helps stimulate collagen production and gives an instant lift to the eye area, leaving the skin firmer and tighter. A course of three to six treatments, two weeks apart will give results that last up to nine months. However, only surgery can banish really puffy eyes once and for all. Lower blepharoplasty costs around £3,000, but can take away the bags and make you look 10 years younger. The procedure takes around one hour and can be performed under local anesthetic, with two weeks down time.

LESLEY SAYS:

Sleep with an extra pillow to help reduce fluid build-up around the eyes. For an instant eye refresher, chill a cup of green tea, soak a couple of cotton pads in it and apply to eyes. The caffeine helps temporarily shrink bags. Magicstripes Eyelid Lifting Stripes (£22 for 96, lookfantastic. com) give eyes a temporary lift. Worn on their own or under eye make-up, they make eyes look years younger. Heavy eye creams can make bags worse. The only eye product I’ve found effective is Skinbetter Science Instant Effect Gel Eye (skinbetter.com) – it really makes eye puffiness disappear. It’s a whopping £78, so it’s an investment purchase. Or look for products with caffeine for a tightening effect, or peptides to boost collagen. Try e.l.f. Illuminating Eye Cream, £11.49. Do your best to reduce your salt and alcohol intake, both of which are linked to fluid retention.
