Britain host Susanna Reid has been forced to step up security at her London home, after suffering two burglaries in the space of just one month.

The 48-year-old TV presenter, who lives there with her sons Sam, 16, Finn, 14, and Jack, 13, has said family possessions were stolen and her car taken in the first raid, followed by thousands of pounds’ worth of electronics in the second.

Anyone that has been burgled will tell you that the invasion of privacy is a truly horrible feeling. The thought of having a – potentially dangerous – stranger prowling around your house must be terrifying.

But for it to happen a second time, as in Susanna’s case, must really start messing with your sense of personal safety, and that of your children.

The mother-of-three, who is reportedly dating Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, is thought to have installed new, state-of-the-art burglar alarm systems to deter future raiders – and who would blame her?

The first time a thief broke into Susanna’s home was on 11 February, when there were allegedly no signs of forced entry, but one of her children’s belongings were snatched. That investigation was closed as police had no suspects and no CCTV images.

According to a newspaper, Susanna ‘chalked it off to bad luck’ – until she noticed, days later, that her car was missing from its usual parking spot, then realised her car keys were no longer in her hallway.

The car was found nearby, but police said no forensic clues had been found and again, the investigation was closed. But Susanna was then burgled again, on 11 March, with police later saying that the offender(s) seemed to have gained access via a window.

That it’s happened twice must have the presenter wondering if it’s the same person, or people. It must be even more disturbing given her public profile.
