TOYBOY TROUBLE!

-

I’ve been with a lovely guy, 12 years my junior, for nearly a year now. Things between us are great when we’re alone, but trying to have a joint social life isn’t really working. His friends’ girlfriends are a lot younger than me, and obsess about things like social media and make-up, and it bores me to tears. In turn, I’ll mention a band I love, and they’ve never heard of them. It’s awkward, and starting to cause tension between me and my man. I want to avoid these scenarios, but understandably, he wants to see his friends! Is there any way of making this work? Louise, Worthing

My darling, have you ever heard the phrase, ‘Count your blessings’? I have walked in your stilettos. My Other Half Ben is 10 years younger than me, and you really should be much too busy enjoying the fabulous advantages of having a fit, firm and gorgeous chap lighting up your life to bother moaning about his muckers’ girlfriends. Don’t be such a Grinch. Lighten up. There must be something you can manage to chat to these women about. You’ve bridged the age-gap with your partner and already know it’s no big deal. Talk to these ladies about other stuff that interests you. Chances are, they’ll get on board, and respond with tales of their own.
