… being the ‘comedy character’ on Emmerdale

It’s nice [playing Bernice] – the show wouldn’t work with everybody having a hard time. They have to share it out – which is great for us [her and Jonny McPherson, who plays her boyfriend Liam]. I think it could work well giving the comedy characters something tough to deal with – it proves such things could happen to anybody.

I don’t get much say in them, really – unless it’s something really awful! Then I’ll say, ‘Nope, really don’t like this’. At the Wild West party, Bernice has massive hair and has to wear these awful ‘whale net’ tights, which have huge holes in – you can’t even get them on because your feet keep slipping through the holes!

I think Bernice would want an extravagant wedding with Liam – dressing up and whatever. Who knows! There’s a lot of potential – they seem well suited. They both have quirks.

I’m nothing like her! There are obviously little bits of me that come out that I emphasise, but I’m not really like her… Emmerdale is on weeknights on ITV at 7pm
