‘I’ve never been a fan of Stella McCartney. Not of her questionable clothes, or plastic handbags and shoes that people with more money than sense pay extortionate amounts for. Nor do I enjoy her constant bleating about saving the planet, veganism and how we should all do less farting, flying and who knows what else.

So I never thought for one second that I’d ever agree with her on anything, but when she says that we all wash our clothes too much, she has a point!

I wouldn’t go so far as never cleaning suits – we don’t all want to look like tramps – but most things (except pants, obviously) can easily sustain

a repeat performance or two. Needless to say, my super-clean husband, Mark, thinks this is disgusting. But how can someone who spends half an hour having a shower, sometimes twice a day, ever think that his clothes need washing after one wear? Every week, there are at least twice as many pairs of socks to wash as there are days in it! Personally, if my T-shirts aren’t stained with wine or food, I’ll get two or three wears out of them. Bras, I’ll wear for as long as a week. Jeans, well, I can’t remember the last time I washed my favourites. But then again, that might be because washing them means I can’t get into them until I’ve starved myself for at least a day!’
