‘I wanted a facelift for ages. My husband thought I was bonkers’
For female TV presenters, it’s long been recognised that the pressure to defy the ageing process with the help of cosmetic procedures can be irresistible. And more fuel was added to the rumours that Kate Garraway has had a little ‘refresh’ by a cheeky side-swipe from her GMB co-host Ben Shephard.
Discussing the ‘filler words’ they use on Love Island, such as ‘ like’, to make the dialogue flow more freely, Ben said, ‘The idea is that these “fillers” – not your sort, Kate… but these fillers are there for the audience to absorb what they’re saying.’
Kate replied, ‘That’s harsh, isn’t it?!’, looking a bit embarrassed, before they moved on to another topic.
The exchange came just weeks after eyebrows were raised when Kate appeared on GMB alongside Ben and Susanna Reid. As Kate, 52, led the breaking news bulletins for the morning, her appearance began to attract attention from viewers, who took to social media to speculate as to why she might be looking different from usual.
‘Has Kate had surgery around her eyes?’ asked one, while another queried, ‘Has Kate Garraway had a facelift?’ Another chipped in with, ‘ What’s Kate Garraway done to her face? Too much Botox?’
Yet another added, ‘Kate Garraway looks different this morning. Different lips/eyes/ stiff face – might be make-up but looks a bit odd...’
So what is going on with Kate? If she has succumbed to the lure of cosmetic procedures, she’d certainly not be the first – with many presenters, such as Andrea McLean, Anthea Turner and Vanessa Feltz, all admitting that they are regular consumers of Botox.
And, with early starts and high-definition TVs revealing every wrinkle and bump, who could blame Kate if she’s decided to have a little help?
It’s something she’s not ruled out for herself. In her book, The Joy Of Big Knickers, which was published in 2017, she spoke about ‘never saying never’ to cosmetic surgery, commenting, ‘I wanted a facelift quite obsessively for ages. But everyone said it wouldn’t make any difference at all. My husband thought I was bonkers. He wouldn’t want me to do it. I’m not saying I’d never have a facelift. Never say never.’
Well, whether Kate’s had tweaks or not, we think she looks fabulous.
