Fiona Phillips: ‘I have the deadly bug’

Fiona Phillips has shared her horrific experience with ‘creepy Covid’, as she self-isolates for the foreseeable…

Journalist and TV presenter Fiona Phillips, 59, is among the many famous faces struck down by the potentially deadly coronavirus.

Warning us about the symptoms of the ‘nasty’ illness, she explained that ‘the first sign of its generosity is in the form of a horrible, sort of scratchy gut pain’.

And Fiona can’t quite believe she’s having to reach out from her sick-bed.

‘I didn’t think I’d ever be writing from my bed… In fact, I didn’t think I was ever likely to be lounging around, in forced isolation, and sweating, in bed on a Tuesday morning, with my husband and two sons all off from work and the muted sounds of an eerie, silent atmosphere travelling through my sickroom window…’

Sadly, there will be a lot of people going through similar across the country.

Fiona continued by highlighting how much she resented her ‘unwanted bed partner’.

Ironically, she said, it’s the closest thing to her these days, certainly closer than her husband – This Morning producer Martin Frizell.

‘I definitely hadn’t entertained the idea of being joined by, and consequently hosting, a bed partner I’d never heard of before, never mind been in touch with. I’m not enjoying its company. Covid-19 isn’t a cuddly, friendly visitor. It might think it’s cosily wheedled its way into my bed, and my body, but it’s definitely not welcome,’ she explained.

Detailing the unwanted symptoms of the virus – a ‘fierce sore throat, high temperature/fever, shortness of breath, annoying dry cough, aches, pains, lethargy and a whole body-sized cloak of sweat – nice’, Fiona said she’d be doing her best to get shot of her unexpected guest.

Though the mum-of-two may have been through hell, we hope Fiona’s got enough fightback to give this vile virus the boot, and start feeling like her normal self again.

We love that, through it all, she hasn’t lost her wry sense of humour, either. ‘Not the cosiest set-up

I’ve experienced, it has to be said, especially as creepy Covid is now my closest partner,’ she said. ‘I definitely plan to have him out of here before he gets his feet too far under the table.’
