Get the most of what’s in your home

-

1 Condition all-day long

‘Wash your hair and leave a deep conditioning mask on all day! You may look a little slick, but who cares when working from home? Rinse out in the evening and you will be left with silky locks.’ Ricky Walters, founder of SALON64

2 Try muti-tasking

Get more use out of your usual make-up kit. ‘Use your bronzer and highlighter as eye shadow to make the eyes look bigger.’ Dr Nina Bal, aesthetic doctor

3 How should you apply your products?

‘Layer your skin care products with the lightest first and thickest last. This ensures the ingredients from the lighter product penetrate the skin and aren’t blocked by thick product.’ Dr Yusra, skin doctor

9 Use every drop

‘Lipsticks with a bulletshaped tip are great when paired with a lip brush as this helps to use all of the formula that can be held in the bottom.’ James Molloy, Rimmel Global Make-up Ambassador

10 Avoid overplucking

‘Hold a pencil at the side of your nose. The place where it reaches your brows is where they should start. Your natural arch starts as the iris ends. Tweeze here for a natural shape.’

Laura Kay, brow expert

Scrub yourself smooth!

‘DIY masks and scrubs can be created with ingredients you have at home. Try mixing 1tsp of honey and ½tsp of brown sugar together for an effective natural face exfoliator.’ Denise Rabor, make-up artist

4

Soothe sore eyes ‘Juice a cucumber (ideally in a juicer) then distribute into ice-cube trays. Freeze them and use around the eyes to soothe and de-puff.’ Danielle Hudson, BeGlow skin care ambassador

5

Disguise split ends ‘Using a serum on the very ends of longer hair can help coat and protect ends, disguising existing split ends and preventing new ones emerging.’ Scott Cornwall, hair expert at Knight & Wilson

6 Fake a voluminous ponytail

‘Secure less than half of your hair – the bottom section – in a ponytail that sits lower than where you want it. Take the second half and tie it in a band, ensuring it sits above and hides the original, lower band. This creates the illusion of fuller hair.’ Phil Smith, hairdresser and owner of Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Haircare

7 The toothpaste alternative

‘If you’ve run out of toothpaste, coconut oil has been said to be a holy grail oil. It is great on skin and hair, but it does not stop there. When used as an alternative to toothpaste, its antibacterial and antifungal properties ensure the mouth is clean and healthy.’ Dr Krystyna, cosmetic dentist

8 Remove gel polish

‘Take the shine off gel polish with a nail file and saturate 10 cotton balls with acetone-based remover. Cover each nail with one cotton ball, hold in place with tin foil, wait 15 minutes then wipe off.’ Leighton Denny MBE, beauty expert

12

Channel Rapunzel

‘Juice one red onion and apply it directly on to the scalp overnight, covered with a towel. Shampoo hair in the morning. The onion’s sulphur helps with the production of keratin in the hair, which will help to promote hair growth.’ Dr Munir Somji, Chief Medical Officer of Dr MediSpa

13

Spot fix

‘A great homemade spot treatment is a turmeric paste. Just mix ¼tsp salt, ¼tsp turmeric powder to 1tsp runny honey. Apply to the spot using a cotton bud and leave on for 10 minutes. For more stubborn spots leave on overnight.’ Bharti Vyas, holistic facialist

14

DIY make-up remover

‘Use a damp cotton pad, apply a 5p-sized blob olive oil and gently wipe over the eye and clean off, making sure no oil is left behind.’ Lisa Harris, skin expert and owner of Lisa Harris Skin Science

15

Treat dry patches

‘Apply a thick layer of body cream, apply cling film loosely to driest areas for 20 minutes. Remove cling film and rub in excess cream for a nourishing treatment.’ Julie Coates, The Lanes Health and Beauty Brighton
