As she hides plans from her children for Louis and Charlotte’s upcoming birthdays, is Kate hiding more heartache?
Rumours are now swirling that it isn’t just Meghan that may have a difficult relationship with the Duchess of Cambridge... Over the years, hints have been made that the York sisters have often felt a twinge of jealousy towards Kate Middleton. For despite being the daughters of a Prince, it was the effortlessly beautiful Kate (daughter of an air stewardess and a party planner), who would grow up to marry a future king.
Used to privilege their whole lives, destiny didn’t smile so kindly on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Even before their father was removed from Royal duties and linked to the Epstein scandal, their uncle, Prince Charles, had encouraged his nieces to get jobs to slim down the monarchy.
Then last week, a story was unearthed by a national paper describing Kate’s ‘heartache’. According to reporter Catherine Ostler, writing in the Daily Mail,
there is a clear division between the future Queen Consort and Beatrice and Eugenie.
Discussing a particular image from the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, where Prince Andrew’s daughters are seen walking behind the Duchess of Cambridge, she noted it was clearly ‘a rather chilly relationship’.
‘More than that, the Princesses were giving the Duchess what would appear to be some rather chilly looks.’
The article said tensions sprung from resentment, over what the York sisters see as Kate’s ‘preferential treatment’.
In isolation at Anmer Hall, the Duchess will have little time to dwell on rumours.
She is busy planning Louis’ birthday this Thursday. It will be a low-key affair but Kate is a dab hand in the kitchen, so chances are she will be whisking up a cake for her youngest son, whose favourite song is already Happy Birthday.
According to the Royals
podcast expert Angela Mollard: ‘Louis, two, and Charlotte, five in May, won’t be able to have friends over. But Kate’s parents run a party planning company. I imagine Carole Middleton has got all these things sorted.’
