Welch V Morgan: Round 2!
They weren’t best pals before, but a fresh clash means relations between Denise Welch and Piers Morgan have hit an all-time low
There’s been no love lost between them for a while, but a recent spat between ITV faves Piers Morgan and Denise Welch has broken out into all-out war, with Denise branding Piers a ‘f**king disgrace’.
The cause of the most recent bust-up was a subject very close to Denise’s heart – mental health.
The Loose Women panellist was angered by the former GMB host (not for the first time) when he hit out at tennis player Naomi Osaka’s refusal to take part in a press conference after the French Open. He called her ‘an arrogant spoilt brat… who appears to have an inflated ego’ in response to what he saw as an attempt to avoid any media scrutiny.
‘Narcissistic Naomi’s cynical exploitation of mental health to silence the media is right from the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting their press cake and eating it,’ he said as he berated the world number two female tennis player.
Naomi later pulled out of the competition.
Denise, who has been very open about her own battles with mental health and has become a spokesperson on the issue, responded with a lengthy Twitter post criticising Piers for ‘ berating a brilliant young woman for prioritising her mental health... Piers also proves why so many people suffer in silence’.
Piers responded, accusing Denise of abusing his mental health.
‘Tut tut. This isn’t very #BeKind is it… Nor is it good for my mental health to be abused like this. I hope Denise reflects on her foul-mouthed tirade and works harder on her anger management. I wish her well.’
Piers also slammed the 23-year-old tennis player for withdrawing from the French Open.
Denise was not alone in leaping to Naomi’s defence. Other commentators questioned Piers’ decision to compare her to Meghan Markle, accusing the former GMB frontman of being ‘obsessed’ with the Duchess.
‘He just can’t stop talking about Meghan, the article is about Naomi but somehow he managed to bring in Meghan,’ was one comment on Twitter.

It is the latest spat between the two stars, who also clashed over Covid-19 last September.
The row came after Denise argued that the media and government had overreacted to the virus.
Piers didn’t mince his words, writing, ‘Dumb, deluded and dangerous Covid deniers like Denise Welch need to stop being given air time. Her idiotic, ill-formed ramblings will cost lives by persuading people to think the virus isn’t a threat.’
Following the row, Denise took a break from social media. However, she is back now, and it looks like we could well have to prepare ourselves for round three of Welch V Morgan......
