All change for Susanna?
Susanna Reid looked like a brandnew woman in a sunny snap shared recently – but what’s going on behind the scenes on GMB…?
GoodMorning Britain presenter Susanna Reid looked positively glowing in a sun-kissed snap she posted to her Instagram recently – complete, it seemed, with fake tan and most definitely some fresh blonde highlights.
Susanna, who has co-hosted the ITV morning show since 2014, also appears a little slimmer of late (that ‘hot girl’ diet must be in full swing) and seemed full of the joys of Spring – or should we say Summer? – as she showed off the radiant new look.
Certainly, she looks very happy – and has spoken of her pride at GMB being nominated for a National Television Award.
But could she be fretting in private about her future?
The star has been steering the ship without her former partner-in-crime, loudmouth Piers Morgan, 56, since he spectacularly flounced off the show mid-transmission, back in March, following disagreements over comments he had made about Meghan Markle.
Yet, as we head towards July, the mum-of-three, 50, still has no permanent co-host to bounce off – though she has been ably assisted by the likes of Bill Turnbull, Alastair Campbell, Adil Ray and a hilarious Richard Madeley.
Viewing figures on GMB have also been declining since Piers stormed off set – not long after having beaten BBC Breakfast in the ratings wars for the first time ever.
While a record 1.9m were watching GMB the day before he quit, by 2 June, ratings had plunged to just 450, 000.
As the new figures emerged, cheeky Piers even tweeted: ‘Jeez. Should I set my alarm for 4.45am again?’
Without a permanent replacement, an ever-changing roster of co-hosts, and Susanna charged with recovering the dramatic dip in ratings, she must be feeling intense pressure to turn it all around.
Until a permanent copresenter is found, which ITV currently seems to be in no rush to do, and with Susanna set to remain as main host either way – there’ll be little let-up.
But could the dream team of Susanna and Piers be getting back together? Last month, Piers stoked the frenzied reports of his possible return by saying he’d been approached by ‘a third party’ about coming back to the famous GMB sofa.
He might have competition, though. Regular stand-in Richard Madeley is currently the bookies’ favourite to take over, and has even declared he’s ‘ready to be the new Piers’!
Now that’s fighting talk… and at least Piers’ wife, Celia, won’t have to deny she is ‘jealous’ of her husband’s close bond with his former co-host!
