Vanessa’s pain is heartbreaking to see
‘Ican’t believe that one of my favourite showbiz couples are no longer. Fellow best columnist and friend, Vanessa Feltz, has split from her partner Ben after 16 years and while she hasn’t said exactly why, she did speak of trust being gone – and her heart being in ‘a million pieces.’

It doesn’t help to have to end a long relationship so publicly either because people will always judge, gossip, or comment on why, how and when. But I’m sure Vanessa knows, like I do, that it goes with the territory and is part of the price you pay for the privileges that come with being in the public eye.
She did end her message on a positive note, though, saying she’s not going to be defeated and was happy to be alive, despite finding herself single again at 60 – which I bet terrifies her, as she’s never really been single in her whole life. I’ve never really thought about life without Mark because, like Vanessa, I’ve always assumed we’d be together until one of us dies. I’ve felt like that almost from the moment I met him. But, as we’ve been around the same number of years and there’s a bit of an age gap, I see the similarities and it has made me think what would happen if Mark and I did split up?
I think, in my head, I’d be fine. But seeing Vanessa’s heart breaking has made me realise, maybe I wouldn’t. Being single wouldn’t bother me because I’m an expert at it, having been single for most of my life.
Also, I feel it might not be so bad, as I’m 100 per cent sure it would never be for the same reasons. Mark never would or could do anything to betray my trust, a) because he could never live with the guilt, and b) because he is a shocking liar – and I would know, even if he were just thinking about it. I would say I hope I’m not wrong about that but no need, because I’m not.’
