LITTLE RED CYCLIST

- By Paul Jeurissen and Grace Johnson

As all cyclists know, nature is beautiful but not benign. She throws wind, sand and rain at us. The experience can be so intense and overpowering that, by the end of the day, we are just happy to escape into a tent that will hopefully protect us from the elements. Yet we also realize that pedal power is an ultimate way to truly experience all the facets of nature. We feel the heat, humidity, and challenging steep hills. These images show what it feels like to be a small and humble bicyclist pedaling through the enormous, overpowering landscapes of the American Southwest.

Paul Jeurissen was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and grew up surrounded by two wheelers. he has special- ized in bicycle imagery and his pictures have been used around the globe in cycling and travel publications.
