KTM 790 Adventure R

If you’re seriously contemplating jacking it all in and heading off to find yourself, KTM could be planning just the tool...

Sold as a bike to pick up where the old 950/990 Adventure models left off, the 790 Adventure R is based around the new LC8C engine from the 790 Duke. Clearly a reaction to the Yamaha Ténéré 700 (see page 71) it’s a proper tool, with low-slung fuel tanks and long-travel WP suspension. KTM say the 790 is a ‘lightweight, compact midweight travel enduro’ and are pitching it at ‘the hardcore adventure crowd’. A bike you’d be more tempted to hurl at a trail than their large-capacity V-twin Adventure models, in other words. It’s currently a prototype (boo), but we expect a finished version in the middle of 2018 (hurrah).
