When is a bagger not a bagger? When it has a top-box

They’ve only just introduced the K1600B ‘bagger’ version of their riotous six-cylinder tourer, yet BMW have already messed with it. The result is the Grand America. It keeps the sloping cases of the 1600B and adds a top-box that doubles as a support for drowsy pillions. Standardfit extras include engine bars, traction, heated bits, modes, cruise and the ability to bang-out Kajagoogoo at high volume. Options are many of course, and include the superbly named Austin Yellow paint scheme. At the opposite end of the scale is a new BMW scooter. The C400X is a 34bhp, 350cc single with constantly-variable transmission, traction control, space to stash two helmets, but no hook to hang a Tesco bag off.
