CLEAN, BRIGHT, ADVANCED

The ID studio has micron-accurate surface platforms, measuring equipment, large gantry mill and lighting that’s almost eery. Designers develop the look and feel of bikes, with computers that let them work live on designs at the same time as their colleagues in India. It’s not all CAD, mind – they still make clay and foam models.

JUST LIKE HOME

Canteen is relaxed, informal. As is the whole place: folk start, finish and take breaks as they see fit. All very different to Triumph, where many staff came from.

IMPRESSIVE ENTRANCE

Stack of bikes in the entrance stair well houses new and old models. Each shelf slides out, and a winch in the roof is used to move them up and down. Very neat.

EVERYONE’S A BIKER

There are separate locker rooms for male and female, with changing areas and nice hot showers. The vast majority of staff in the tech centre ride bikes, so the building is geared-up for their needs. At Bike we argue over a single fan heater, but RE’S drying area not only provides somewhere to hang their sopping-wet riding gear, but also has a wet-room style floor to let dripping water drain away, and it gently dries kit with warm air. No soggy clobber at home time.
