New enduro world championship launched
What is enduro? The sport has spread out in the last decade or so to become a very broad racing church which, to many, is confusing. Enduro doesn’t lend itself to different championships based on bike types (though that can come into it) but is basically built around what riders like to do with their Sunday mornings. The new, eight round World Enduro Super Series (WESS) simplifies things by throwing a blanket over established events such as the Romaniacs and Erzberg Rodeo, beach races and traditional long distance events. The key to WESS is to go where the crowd is and get behind the annual events which attract the biggest numbers of riders and spectators. It’s a series for any rider too, not just the professionals. There’s a back-story to all this. Manufacturers such as KTM spend big money racing in world championships but if that world championship drops off a cliff in terms of audience then why bother?
